I just finished reading The Envy of Eve by Melissa Kruger. I highly recommend this book as it speaks directly to the fact that our hearts are deceptive and so easily swayed. "The more we seek our treasure outside of Christ, the more we falsely believe that God is lacking in His goodness to us. Essentially, our coveting accuses God of a failure to reign well over the events in our lives."
This book has encouraged me to take a deeper look at the affections of my heart. What do I run to in order to find happiness or peace and joy. I was recently on Facebook and a friend had posted pictures of her brand new beautiful house and the thought that crossed my mind was, "wow, when I get a new house then I will really be happy, or my kids will be less annoying because they will have more space to run around and be loud and ...(fill in the blank). Facebook, blogs, Instagram are great things and i enjoy using them, but I find if I am not careful even those fun ways of sharing our lives with one another can become deceiving when I start to look around and pick out all the great things I see other people doing via snapshots on Facebook and wonder why my life is not adding up to a bunch of perfect snapshots! The enemy can lie to us using all kinds of good things and cause us to be discontent with where the Lord has us. I am learning I need to be on my guard and be ever so THANKFUL for how the Lord has blessed me way beyond what we deserve!
Read it for yourself and see what the Lord may want to reveal in your own heart!
